The World Tree Textile Initiative

At World Tree Permaculture, we recognize that sustainable fiber production is a vital yet often overlooked aspect of regenerative agriculture. The World Tree Textile Initiative is our commitment to creating a closed-loop wool processing system that keeps fiber on-site from raw fleece to finished product. By integrating silvopasture practices, localized processing, and ethical production, we aim to set a new standard for sustainable textiles.

Building a Closed-Loop Fiber System

Unlike conventional fiber mills that handle only part of the process, our initiative will manage the entire journey—from sheep to finished garment—ensuring sustainability at every step.

Key Elements of Our Initiative:

  • Climate-Beneficial Wool Program – Utilizing silvopasture systems, we will integrate rotational grazing with tree crops to improve soil health, sequester carbon, and produce high-quality fiber.

  • On-Site Fiber Processing – All wool will be washed, carded, spun, and finished at our facility, eliminating the need for long-distance transportation and reducing our carbon footprint.

  • Natural Dyeing & Fiber Arts Education – We will use locally sourced plant-based dyes, offering workshops to educate the community on sustainable fiber practices.

  • Custom Fiber Processing Services – Our facility will provide spinning, carding, and fiber preparation services to regional wool growers, keeping local fiber within the community.

  • Ethical & Eco-Friendly Clothing Alternatives – Through our Mercantile & Makers Club, we will offer custom, made-to-order clothing using sustainable fibers, contributing to the slow fashion movement.

Revitalizing Sustainable Fashion

The fast fashion industry is one of the world’s largest polluters. By offering custom, made-to-order garments, we provide a viable alternative that values quality over quantity. Customers will be able to try on sample garments in-store, order their perfect size, and receive ethically made, tailored clothing. This approach minimizes waste and fosters a deeper connection between people and the garments they wear.

Our fiber mill will serve as a hub for regional fiber processing, ensuring that wool stays within the community until it is a finished, high-quality product. By focusing on regenerative fiber production, we will promote ethical fashion choices, skill preservation, and local economic growth.

How You Can Get Involved

We are looking for wool growers, fiber artists, and sustainability advocates to join us in building a regenerative textile future. Whether you want to contribute raw fiber, learn traditional fiber arts, or support ethical clothing production, your involvement will help us reshape the world of sustainable textiles.

Join us in creating a textile economy that nurtures the land, supports local growers, and provides sustainable, high-quality clothing for generations to come.
