Securing Land for our Demonstration Farm

The foundational step in the development of World Tree Permaculture is acquiring land in Hegins, Pennsylvania, where we will establish our permaculture demonstration farm. This farm will serve as the heart of our organization—a living classroom, a center for ecological restoration, and a model of regenerative agriculture.

Why This Land Matters

We have identified a 68-acre property in Hegins, Pennsylvania, as the ideal site for our permaculture demonstration farm. This location provides the space and resources necessary to implement a diverse range of regenerative practices while remaining accessible to several communities and school districts.

The land itself presents a unique balance of opportunity and restoration potential:

  • 47 acres of former corn and soybean fields – A blank canvas ready to be transformed into food forests, silvopastures, and market gardens, restoring soil health and biodiversity.

  • 2 acres of developed land – The site of existing buildings, which will serve as the hub for farm operations, education, and community engagement.

  • Wooded riparian zones – Essential for foraging, seed collection, and wildlife corridors, these areas will be enhanced to support native biodiversity and watershed protection.

This property allows us to demonstrate real-world solutions for regenerative agriculture, from rebuilding soil fertility to integrating trees, livestock, and sustainable food production. It is not just land—it is the foundation for a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem that will serve as an educational and agricultural resource for generations to come.

Key Goals for the Demonstration Farm

Our vision for the farm includes:

  • Food Forests – Establishing perennial polycultures for long-term food security

  • Silvopasture Systems – Integrating livestock with tree crops to improve soil health and fiber production

  • Market Gardens – Producing high-yield, nutrient-dense food for our CSA and local markets

  • Renewable Energy Systems – Incorporating off-grid power solutions and sustainable infrastructure

  • Water Management Strategies – Designing for water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and natural irrigation

  • Educational Space – Providing workshops, hands-on training, and research opportunities for the community

How We’re Making It Happen

Securing land is a significant investment, and we are actively working on multiple strategies to make this vision a reality:

  • Fundraising & Recurring Contributions – Engaging individual donors to build a sustainable funding base through recurring contributions.

  • Partnerships – Collaborating with small businesses and conservation groups to secure support and resources.

  • Community Support & Volunteer Network – Building a strong volunteer network to assist with land preparation, planting, and infrastructure development.
